6th February Pazarcık/Kahramanmaraş Earthquake
What happened on 6th February?
At dawn on 6th Feb, 2023 we rose up to a nightmare. Two major earthquakes with the magnitudes of 7,8 and 7,6 hit a total of 11 cities in Southern Turkey and Northern Syria. Most of us know the rest of the story, a stream of efforts and campaigns hailed to the region from all over the world.
Natural disasters can occur all over the world. But the disasters created governments are greater than those caused all these natural disasters. Goverments in the third world countries usually are incapable of following an effective search and rescue process. The recovery process of disaster victims is even worse. So this is the reason of creating Tent Of Life.
On 6th February, we started a coordination with few people to get information and find solutions for to help earthquake zone. We found some disaster victims who wanted to help other victims. 2 days after the earthquake, we reached all villages and deliver some supplies. Now we have some depots in Hatay and delivering supplies to areas that hard are to reach. This is the story of an organization formed to meet the needs of earthquake survivors against the pain and chaos created a corrupt government.
We want to tell you what happened, what we did and what we are going to do…
What did we do?
After the second earthquake, we started to find some local connection to get information. We knew that if we know the current situtation, we might be able to create solutions. We created coordination chat groups and get disaster victims into it and sterted to get some informations. The first information we learned was that there were no construction equipment and operators in the region. The same information began to circulate on social media, and the phone numbers of people who wanted to help began to be shared. In order to prevent information deformation, we established a working group that confirmed all incoming information phone and started to process all information here. Afterwards, when the disaster victims who helped in the region reached out, coordination was established.
Our first task after the coordination was established was to try to reach all the resources to provide support to the region. We started to stock up with the supplies that reached the warehouse found the volunteers. With the volunteers, we delivered and distributed all the resources we found to the volunteers in the region. In a few days, we turned into an organization that reached all the villages in the Hatay region and met their basic needs.
What are we going to do?
First of all, we need to establish the organization as a formal organization. Afterwards, we will implement our 2-part social innovation projects, which will form one of the main parts of the Tent of Life. Our social innovation project will be the first step of a sustainable system.
